DED and American Society of Quality honour UAE's outstanding quality professionals

Two highly experienced and well-deserving quality professionals were honoured recently for their excellent contributions to the quality profession in the United Arab Emirates.

Souraj Salah, Ph.D., Dubai, and Rana Nabulsi, Ph.D., Abu Dhabi, were named the inaugural winners of the ASQ UAE Quality Professional Awards, which recognises excellent contributions among quality professionals in the UAE.

The winners were honoured at a ceremony held under the patronage of Her Excellency Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, UAE Minister of International Co-operation and Development, at the Emirates Towers Hotel, Dubai.

The annual award, which is a joint initiative between the Department of Economic Development (DED) in Dubai and ASQ, celebrates outstanding efforts and contributions from quality professionals working in all sectors of the UAE economy, and is based on the principles of fairness, transparency, objectivity, independence with high standards and performance.

Salah has sustained a track record of implementing improvement projects designed to increase performance. He is extremely knowledgeable of a wide-range of quality and excellence frameworks, including ISO, Six Sigma and more.

“Quality is a passion of goodness that is lived to create a better life for all people in the society,” Salah said. “It is about making their lives easier and more enjoyable. It is simply about feeling proud in what we do.”

Nabulsi has contributed greatly to quality, especially in the healthcare industry by providing leadership in community services.

“I am honoured and pleased to receive the first cycle of the prestigious ASQ UAE Quality Professionals Award, which attests my ongoing commitment to exceed customer expectations while delivering the highest quality services possible,” Nabulsi said.

HE Hazza Al Qahtani, Undersecretary, Ministry of International Cooperation and Development, said “ Recognizing the deserving winners of ASQ Award will go a long way in inspiring many other professionals to contribute to enhance their skills as well as helping organizations improve their performance”

“Dubai has created and sustained a quality march, which is a model for organisations across the region. The ASQ UAE Awards mark a new level of international benchmarking and the Department of Economic Development believes it will bring added value for Dubai as well as its businesses and organisations,” remarked Ali Ibrahim, DED Deputy Director General.

Sunil Thawani, incoming member of ASQ’s Board of Directors, and ASQ Country Counselor-UAE, said, “This award recognises and sets forth role model behaviours that inspire, encourage, challenge and empower other quality professionals in the UAE and beyond to lead performance excellence.”

“We thank the ASQ leadership for approving the first ever ASQ UAE Quality Professional Award to recognise individuals for their outstanding achievements and contribution to quality,” Thawani said.
